What was that at the end of Spider-Man Far From Home?

This contains spoilers for Spider-Man: Far From Home and the other movies in the MCU series. Read on with that knowledge in mind.

The Spider-Man sequel is here and is a blast. What was that that happened at the end credits, though? There are two this time, and they are both pretty great.

Spidey & MJ Far From Home

The first continues right where the movie left off, with Spider-Man and MJ swinging around the city. Peter lands with MJ and she doesn’t want to web swing anymore. Pete says goodbye and is about to swing away when a news broadcast appears on a giant monitor on a nearby building. The Daily Bugle has an exclusive video of Spidey vs. Mysterio. It’s the end confrontation from the film, except it has been edited and doctored to make Spidey to look like he was the villain the whole time. None other than J. Jonah Jameson appears afterward and he is played by none other than J. K. Simmons!

YES. SERIOUSLY.

Simmons looks older and has less hair, but it was a treat to see him back in the role. JJJ then proceeds to let the public know that he knows Spider-Man’s true identity… high school student Peter Parker. Spidey yells at the camera as it abruptly cuts to black.

Nick Fury and Maria Hill

The last scene is at the very end of the credits. We see Nick Fury and Maria Hill driving together in a car. They then begin to morph into Skrulls. Nick Fury was actually Talos this whole time! There are fan theories out there that Nick Fury has been a Skrull ever since the events of Captain Marvel… which this seems to lend credence to.

Talos is talking on the phone to… Oh, wait. NICK FURY. Nick is on a tropical beach somewhere. Nick hangs up and we see the tropical background dissolve away to the interior of a spacecraft. Fury was in some sort of hologram simulation to make it look like he was on a beach. As he gets up, we see various Skrulls going about doing tasks around him. It seems Nick Fury is not only in charge of SHIELD, but also a branch of the Skrull army.

What I loved about these two end credits sequences is that Marvel doubles down on the next phase of the MCU. We are not only getting more Skrull and cosmic action, but we can’t even expect what they will or will not do. I never thought in a million years they would bring back J.K. Simmons as Jameson.
